Thanks to all that came out.

Kudos to the CdB women who, if I recall the times correctly, beat 1/2 the CdB men in the race times, some of the ladies doing it in playboats!

Another notable achievement is, I'm pretty sure, this is the first year CdB finished with no swims/DNFs.  Everyone finished, though Adrian, as usual, kept things exciting with his line choices.

Bummer about a lost boat on the Upper, but it's still the best river run at high water -- better than anything else I've hit in Ontario. Not hard, just fun.  It's 120 CMS this weekend which is still super fun, so get on it.  Much more forgiving but still has a good big water vibe.

Rains coming this weekend, so Sunday should bring in lots of options.  Hit up something new!

The race: just for fun... I lost so much time, unnessarily paddling up the starting eddy to be able to ferry where I wanted to go, that Robert Monti passed me after the first rapid... I have a good chunk of the event on helmet camera footage! For the race, the river flow was about 187 cubic meters per second (3.55 m on the EC gauge). It was about as high as I've ever seen it, the 'thing' at the bottom of Lover's was rather big...

Footage also includes the Sunday run of the Upper section which was... eventful, to say the least. The river was at about 175 cubic meters per second (3.50 m on the EC gauge), some say it's at a sweet spot, I'll say it was big but manageable. Apart from bushwacking along one rapid because we ended up above the wrong channel with unavoidable holes after rescueing boat+paddler+broken paddle, everything had at least one line that was clearly seen by all who looked. The first kilometer or two is amazing--pick your way down one eddy at a time! Anyway, I'll let the involved parties tell their story themselves. Suffice to say we'll be back there again--very soon, actually, as soon as the level goes down enough...

The hike up the old railroad is quite an ordeal with an 8' 8" 50 lbs boat loaded with lots of gear! Next time I'll bring a cart with big wheels instead of the knapsack/straps combination. Right now, my shoulders are sore...

Just curious

Who won? Or how did CdB place? Or is it just the fun of it all?

20 CdB paddlers were present! Paul Potvin really enjoyed Hell or High Water Festival today in Petawawa even if he did not paddle. At least he got to call stops and starts to the race when the safety boaters were rescuing rafters throw overboard. And he got to use fancy walkitalkies and ended all his sentences with "Roger".
