I (and possibly Paul and others?) will go Friday afternoon and play a bit, then drink, camp, and be there for the rest of the weekend.
Do not bring wood from other places, invasive insects are already a problem in Ontario. But don't worry, the club checkbook will fund firewood!
River Run fees are reasonable considering what you get. As I wrote earlier, just the fact that someone is watching over the parking lot is worth a lot. Worth 342$ in my case, after a$$h0le broke my right side mirror when parked by the Rouge (Harrington canyon section). That's even though the owner had specifically given us his permission to park there and use his property!
That rant voiced, I'd like to report that for the Rouge canyon section, the landlord was very friendly and did give us kayakers permission to use his land as a take-out. But as he requested, just park by the bridge so that partying yahoos don't think it's ok to park anywhere near his land. He's ok with kayakers, we just go in and out and don't hang out drinking... So if you're there and some fellow comes in a pick-up truck to talk to you, be nice and thank him (if he is indeed the landlord) for letting you use the take-out, assure him you're just passing and park by the bridge. People there are in fact mostly nice and realise that the economy of their region will soon be fueled by tourism. For instance, when walking back, another local resident gave me a ride in his car after the run, even though I was soaking wet! But there is one or more residents near the bridge that may need 'readjustment'...
See you all this weekend!
