I love that river! It's like paddling in post-apocalypse USA: no leaves on the trees, no one around, decaying structures everywhere...

I would be if we could more the two people. I don't feel like 6 hours in the car by myself.
Also, not super keen on a very early start.

Just a heads up.. The gauge just hit 4 which is the lower runnable limit but it is on a STEEP curve up! The Ice might have just broken.

I will keep an eye on the gauge and if it hits around 6-7 and up, I will be heading there Sunday.

Otherwise, well still keep an eye on it for next weekend and later.

in the meantime, heres a video of the chazy at 4.15.

The good section, with the long slides, is the so-called 'Miner Lake to Mooers',

The level is now below recommended, so let's keep an eye on the gauge!

Well, its that time of the year again!

I am posting this about 3 weeks in advance as it would be fun for as many people to join! I will update the title when The ice breaks!

When: Around the third week of March (if the ice breaks like last year) So well aim for March 17th or 24th!
Where: Great Chazy River , NY. Altona to Wood Falls or Mooers Fork Class 3+/4+
Who: Class 3+ Boaters.
More info: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1316/

This by no means a "bring a beginner day" as there are many must make moves IMO. You NEED to be able to roll and stay upright in somewhat fast moving water. There are shallow slides, shitty holes, 1 undercut and a 12-15 foot waterfall.

Beta:

You can either put it above the damn on the rapid "white mile" and run the 100 foot slide from the river right or put in below the slide, or below the "white mile". After that comes the hole. Its basically a reactionary wave off an undercut wall, leading into a hole. Safety can be set up, Although, the slide comes up quick so its better not to swim. Then there is the first slide.. Most likely 6 inches of water for about 1.5 miles, flowing very fast creating many reactionary waves and small holes. Keeper hole at the bottom which is usually punched on the left weak side. Then there are some class 2 boogie for a while, a bit of flatwater, another slide and a little pourover that you run on the right. After some more boogie, you get to scout wood falls... a class 4 12-15 foot waterfall! You can take out above or below!

Above the Dam (III+):

White mile(II+):

First Hole(IV):

First Slide (III+)

2nd slide and boogie(III)

Wood Falls (IV+)
