looking at a glass half full of beer.
I haven't been up there since the dam issue, but that certainly would improve access to the river rather than present (temporary?) portage trail.

All trips down the river, irrespective of the type of
watercraft, can start under the bridge that crosses the
river just downstream from the Laniel dam. A river
access point will be built at this location. It will be accessible
on foot via the footbridge over the dam. The route
ends 8 km downstream, where a trail brings boaters back
to the main road that runs alongside Rivi?re Kipawa.
Another exit is planned halfway down the route at Pointe ? Ti-Mine

Section 6.3 of the same document

As for paddling activities on Rivi?re Kipawa, it is important
to remember that its flow is controlled by a dam.
The park administrator must communicate with the
management of the Laniel dam to coordinate activities
on the river. Thanks to a gauging station on the river, it
is possible to obtain real-time data on river conditions in
order to keep visitors informed.

It is good news indeed. The park boundary will go, partly, from river-left of the Grande Chute all the way to the lake, and Scott's property ("Pointe Topping" on the map), along with its access road, is not within the park. This is obviously a very good compromise. Note, however, that the park begins at the transmission lines just above Rock'n'Roll, so the put-in below the dam at Laniel can still be subject to Hydro Qu?bec interference.

P. S. It's interesting that on many rivers, the presence of transmission lines signals a significant rapid: Gatineau (High Tension), Rouge (Elizabeth's drop), Kipawa (Rock'n'Roll)... Any other examples?

Hello Paddlers,

I have received this letter recently from the owners of the Kipawa River Lodge:

Many thanks for the years of support from KWP members!

A letter from Scott &Pat Sorenson on the Kipawa

Hello friends of the Kipawa. I just received some great news from the government of Quebec Opemica Park representatives. Tabaret will no longer be excluded from the Park. Hydro Quebec has given up on any plans for Tabaret and the entire area is now part of the park. The Kipawa now has protection at least from Hydro Quebec. The final public hearings for the proposed park are to be held in the town of Temiskaming June 9-10. I will be in attendance. Our property has also been excluded from the park so now I feel good about lending support for Opemica. A heavy burden has been lifted from my shoulders. Pat and I will be forever grateful to Les Amis and particularly to Doug Skeggs, Peter Karwacki and Jim Coffee / Esprit for so many years of unwavering support and sacrifice on behalf of the river we love and our home on the Kipawa. I feel like we have fought the good fight and perhaps lost a battle or two, but have won the war. Thank you my dear friends and paddling partners. Please share this happy news with Les Amis and the paddling communtiy. Hope to see everyone at the Rally. If you want to have a look at the final proposal go to this link http://www.mddep.gouv.qc...s/opemican/index-en.htm

Regards to all,

Scott and Pat
