Alright then, do you have a suggestion of another fun and easy river that would resemble the Salmon? My buddy has never done spring boating so I don't want something too intimidating to start with but still a little challenging and fun. He did run the Bonnet Rouge and the Nation Canyon at low water last summer but that's it! He never did a whole section of a river. I wouldn't consider doing the Nation with him right now, water's getting too high and pushy. I would do the Beaver or Black myself, but I'm not sure about my buddy doing that. (although I could be wrong?) There's the Mississipi which is not too far, not super interesting though. Is there another spring type creek somewhere within a couple hour drive? I want to get him ready for Bonniebrook in May. Don't know if you guys would be interested? I'll post the date in a few weeks on this post.

I don't know if this makes a difference but in case you're wondering, my buddy Jean-Fran?ois paddles a Nomad and he's got a SO-SO roll, not bombproof yet. We'd be going with another friend of mine who is a very good kayaker though.

Anyway, thank for your help.

Man, that's a tough call. There was still a few inches of ice and with these cold temperatures in the forecast, the melt won't be as fast as we'd like. I suspect it may be too thick to paddle through and too thin to walk on making the access very difficult.

Of interest, the gauge at Tamworth (below the take out) has gone up since Sunday and is still climbing.

The videos are great! Good job!  8)  I think the Salmon could be a nice ride for my buddy. Do you think the lake at the beginning of the run will be ice free by next Wednesday? (April 17)

There were a few canoeists last week playing around in the canyon. I filmed yesterday's excursion, working on the video tonight, so hopefully it will be posted in the next 2 days. I'll make sure to post the link here once available.

Cool, thanks.

Nice pics Christian! Looks like a fun river. How's the river in between the photographed spots? Lot of flatwater? Wanna see a video!!!  ;D
its a fun day on the river but not very challenging.

Hmmm, that sounds pretty good as I would be doing it with a buddy who's starting out. Did you post a video somewhere?

Not much flat water, except for at the put in. A good 2km of flat, or ice depending on when you go.

Lots of class 2 rapids, with 3 larger class 3 rapids.

its a fun day on the river but not very challenging.

It was about that maybe just a hair lower today when we ran it.

I ran it last year and the water was piling up on the last bridge.

Here are a few: Stern Banger, Canyon, Last Drop and the bridge just below the take-out. So you can compare levels!

I made a little movie of the carnage there too, perhaps I can post it...
