I'm going to be heading out that way pretty soon myself Stefan. If it is not too crowded then I'll be putting in, and if it is crowded well then you have lots of company.  As Larry mentioned, have float bags. A whistle attached to your life jacket is a good idea as well.

I'll be in a longer green boat and wearing a black helmet.

Amen. Heading out shortly.

Stefan

Hi

Go to Bates Island .... there will be at least 6 boaters, 2 surfers, 3 SUPers at various time in the water on warm Sunday afternoon
Very few members of the club post that they are going to Bates Island at this time of the year ... why? because they know there will be a line up so why invite more people to clog up the eddy.

Dress appropriately since water is coolish
and have float bags in the your boat.

It's the nature of the sport that we all sort of keep an eye on other boaters and help out as necessary.

Here's a question. Will your kayaking skills improve if you and your boat stays at home?

Hi CdB folks,

I'm new to posting here, though I have met a couple of you briefly at Bate Island and last year at Babyface.

I'm a relatively new paddler with a pretty solid roll and I've just finished getting my own gear (Jackson Fun and a Werner Player to power me.. yay!). I'm hoping to go out to Bate Island this afternoon for some playboating, but need someone to keep an eye out for me in case I end up swimming. I'm not going to lie: my roll is about 100% on flat water, but sometimes in the choppy waters below the Bate Island wave, I am unsuccessful at getting all the way up.

I'll be checking back into the forum over the next few hours, but anyone interested in reaching me can call me at 613-795-5066 or email me at stefan.wesche@gmail.com

Hoping to make some new paddling friends!

Cheers,

Stefan Wesche

Stefan,
there is always a line-up at this time of the year at Champlain, people are generally friendly, you will have plenty of friends in no time to fish you in the case you swim.

Have fun.
