Hi

Prizes yes ... but clarification ... you will have the opportunity to win a prize

Participants will receive one 'draw ticket" for each challenge they enter.
Each participant on the 'winning' team for each challenge will receive 2 "draw tickets"

So if my math is correct ... You enter all 3 challenges and on the winning team for all 3 challenges, you would have 9 tickets entered into the prize draw.

At the completion of the River Rescue Games there will be a draw for the prizes.

This will work if Paul and Christian remember to bring the stack of tickets.

Larry

And yes: we have prizes for winners, good ones...

I messaged Christian about the tickets. I will bring the prizes!

Paul:-)

River Rescue Games - 2013 Edition
« Reply #1 on: July 10, 2013, 06:59:26 PM »
You have heard of the Hunger Games ... well this it not the same since there will be no weapons.

In conjunction with the Ottawa River Weekend, at some time on Saturday evening between the dinner and darkness .... The River Rescue Games 2013 will commence. The challenges listed below are not meant to replace proper instruction by a qualified person but to raise awareness and to have some fun at the same time .....

I decided each challenge should be team orientated since most of the time we go paddling in a group setting.

Prizes... prizes and more prizes and bragging rights to be won

So let the games begin.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Challenge 1A - Rope throw
Form teams of 4

Equipment needed:
3 throw ropes
blind fold
chair or something to sit on
whistle

Each team will provide the equipment.
1 person of each team will be designated the victim with a whistle and situated in a chair X distance away.
The other 3 members will be the throwers, throwing one after another.
To add an extra challenge, the first thrower of the 3 will be blind folded and guided by the other 2 members.

When all teams are ready with blindfold on the selected team member, the start signal will "fire".
Each team member is required to "rescue" the victim by throwing their rope.
Once the 3rd rope is thrown and has come to a rest on the ground .... blow 2 short blasts on the whistle to indicate your team has finished

Do not move the ropes until all teams have completed and judged for accuracy.

Winners will be determined by the accuracy and speed, with accuracy being the most important of the 2.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Challenge 1B - Rope stuffing
Same Team of 4 that was in Challenge 1A
3 throw ropes
whistle

One person will have the whistle, the other 3 on the team will be stuffing the ropes back into the throw bags.
At the sound of the start signal ... start stuffing.
When all 3 ropes are stuffed into the throw bags ... the person holding the whistle will provide 2 short blasts indicating they are finished.

The team that finishes first stuffing the 3 throw bags correctly will be declared the winner

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Challenge 2 - Z drag
Form teams of 4

Equipment needed:
Anchor point
boat
ropes, carabiners and stuff.
whistle

Set up
Each team will provide the equipment
Each team will select an anchor point --- car, picnic table, tree ... the set up must be located within Paddler meadow
Once the team has selected the anchor point, the boat will be placed X distance away.

1 member will designated the victim and sitting in/on the boat which is to provide resistance ... so the choice of anchor point is important
The starting point for the other 3 members will be at their chosen anchor point.

When all teams are ready, the start signal will "fire".

Each team is required to correctly setup a Z-drag and pull the boat a defined distance (a mark will placed on the ground)
Once nose of the boat crosses the mark, blow the whistle (2 short blasts) indicating your team has finished.

Do not disassemble your setup until all teams have finished, viewed by other teams and judged for correctness.
Winners will be determined by speed and correct setup.
