And elbow pads are optional but passports aren't...

Ha! Elbow pads especially if running the left channel of Dogleg--it's only 2' wide! And judging from some people's runs sometimes, some sort of knuckle protection... And a few spare paddles, just in case. I've seen (and heard!) paddles break in 3 different rapids of this short section. That includes one of mine... Full face helmet nice but not necessary, as it is not that bad.

Hi folks,

I've changed the meeting place to the "Fallowfield/Woodroffe Park & Ride" as Larry suggested.

As mentioned to you Bill, Jon and I will be attending. It's also looking like Alex Maggs wants to join us (assuming she gets her passport via mail in time which sounds like it will).

As for meeting place, I'm easy... either one is very close to my place since I'm in Barrhaven.

I'd definitely be up to do the Eagle thing as well.

Is alex coming with me an you? if so I Will put the stackers on the roof.

hi

Just 3 things

1) I can go
2) I did a google map to the Taylorville section
https://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=205353621598577759867.0004e584d13de38d7d891&msa=0&ll=43.927479,-75.316815&spn=0.009195,0.022724

3) We could use a new carpool meeting place for NY rivers. The Ultramar guys are not too friendly.
Can I suggest the Park and Ride at Fallowfield and Woodroffe?

oh bring your passports --- oops that 4 things but who's counting

Hi folks,

Several of us are planning to run the Taylorville section and possibly the Eagle section if there's interest.
The Taylorville section is rated Class 3-4 and is a low volume run (400 cfs or 11 cms)
This is the flow we had on the Upper Black in ON this year on MACKFest weekend.
Elbow pads would be good to bring along if have them.
The release is scheduled from 10:00am to 2:00pm so we will need to leave from Ottawa fairly early
in order to get more than one run in on that section.

Plans are to meet at the Ultramar station on Prince of Wales Dr.  Fallowfield/Woodroffe Park & Ride at 7:45am and head down to the border at 8:00am from there.
GPS coordinates 45.240607,-75.71226  45.297351,-75.734611

From Christian's post a few days ago:
Quote
Beaver Taylorville section, Class III-IV 1.3 km long, do 2-3 times during the release. A very good introduction to creek-type rivers, suitable for intermediate paddlers in creek boats:
https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2612/

With time at the border and the usual gas stop in Ogdensburg, we should be at the Taylorville put-in by 10:30
GPS  coordinates for the put-in are: 43.928437,-75.311927

The Eagle Section is releasing water from 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Quote
Beaver Eagle section, Class V approx.  300 m long, do 2-3 times during release. Expert run, river drops more than 30 m over 300 m--it's really steep:
https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2614/
Note: it is an expert section, but the last drop, a friendly 4 m waterfall, can be run by intermediate paddlers multiple times, so it's worth going there just for that!
