Either. They are easy runs.

Hey  I put together a video of the mississippi, but youtube muted the music.

So here it is with no sound: http://youtu.be/McQyIOW2MGU

Thanks all for a fun day on the river. I have missed the club trips...
Great easy day to start the paddling season.   :)

Awesome day on the river with old friends and new ones.

Great way to start the paddling season!

Paul ;D

Here is a video of the river at lower level. (And a song about a man somehow foolish enough to loose a noodle???)

For those that are curious...

Both rivers were done. Both runs are pretty easy at the moment. A couple of smallish "holes" but nothing major at all. It may keep you for a few seconds if you end up in the wrong spot but they are fairly easy to avoid. Most rapids are class 2 with a couple that I would personally rate as 2+ (not quite 3).

Besides the debris and chunks of ice floating here and there, the ice is all gone on these two rivers except in a few bays on the flat sections.

Overall, these two rivers are great "warmup" runs... get the cobwebs out and make sure your gear is in working order. *Some* experienced people have even learned that they should have a checklist so that they don't show up at the river without a spray skirt... and then realize they forgot their PFD too ;) Just teasing. Luckily a few others were able to supply extra gear.

I don't think that I'm going to make it for the Mississippi tomorrow (too much time required to find paddling gear) , but I would like to join in for the fun on the Carp. If someone could post an ETA for the Carp Putin after they take off on the Mississipp then that would be a way friendly thing to do. TIA!

I am worried about having cold hands. Any good ideas?

Sandra, someone who's been paddling for as long as you have (over 10 years??) doesn't need to use a paddle anymore. Just keep your hands in your pockets and you should be fine.

Out of curiosity, what are the GPS coordinates for the take-out of Carp?

Any description of the rivers beyond Class II/III in terms of difficulty?

Mississippi: similar to the Lower Mad, one major rapid about 3/4 the way down that can be carried on river right

Carp:  narrow river/creek with 1 major drop near the end, will probably have very fast current and there may be trees/branches floating along with us...
