I second the NRS mitts. Really worth while.

...hence the creek boats: stay upright. Actually it's not that bad. A good opportunity to tune your paddling gear and skills!

Meadow muffins! HA! Never heard that one before.

DO NOT open mouth on the Carp. Got it.

Hi

Mississipi
https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=lanark&hl=en&ll=44.970294,-76.431584&spn=0.024714,0.046563&sll=45.250157,-75.800257&sspn=0.786993,1.490021&hnear=Lanark+County,+Ontario&t=h&z=15

Ironmine road where it crosses the river to Playfairville.
From the satellite picture you can see Playfairville Rapids ... pretty straight forward... there's a hole on the R. right at the top that Sandra can play in and some ledges near the bottom of the section. It's a site of an old mill or something. The other sets aren't worth being concerned about.

The entire section of the river probably crosses one contour line so there is not a lot of vertical.

Carp River
Class III? in my opinion the only reason it's rated Class III is that all the run-off is coming from the pastures where the cows have been roaming for the entire winter ... not only does snow melt but meadow muffins thaw out too.

Larry

Any description of the rivers beyond Class II/III in terms of difficulty?

I'm not sure just yet but I do have a question, is this playboat or creekboat?

Adam

Time-frame: What time will you guys be off the river?

Bill said that the return to Ottawa should not be much later than 6-PM, depending on the pace of the group.

Type of boat:

Both rivers can easily be done in a play boat. Many people do bring their creek boats or river running boats, just because it is a river run with no play spots per say, not that you can't catch a wave or small hole to surf here and there, and because it's easier/dryer in a bigger boat if it's your first time on the river in the spring.

Cheers,

Paul

Out of curiosity, what are the GPS coordinates for the take-out of Carp?

Hi!

I will be there also. Do you know approximately what time we will be out of those two river? I am not asking for specific time, but just something to give me an idea.

Sounds good Bill. I should be there. I have never paddled these rivers before, and for me, it looks like a perfect start to the season!

Ok, I will come. But just for the mississippi portion then I will have to go home.

I'll meet you guys at the takeout, as it would not make new sense for me to go into kanata, then go out past my place.
