Luc, I got your message late Sunday :-(

But I had to work anyway - too bad I missed.

Next time.

Probably not any time Christian.  It's above recommended at over 7 feet (which I don't think I've ever seen before).  Should be some epic paddling out there for this long weekend coming up!

Bill Schlarb, Eric Clement and I did it one season over 5 ft. Eric (exaggerating slightly) said after the run that he thought he only needed 1 paddle stroke for the entire run because it was so continuous.   Bill will correct me if I misremember it. Years later, that day still brings a smile to my face.   The driving to paddling time ratio is pretty sweet too.

Well, can confirm that water at 4.6 for the St-Regis is nothing but awesome!!! Everything is just bigger and there are less rocks (/none) to scrape on. 2/3 ran the first big drop, both got flipped and had to roll. Went for the portage on the left of the dam, found a shelf of ice sticking out from the shoreline about a 100ft. Had to walk on it to get to the shore and I managed to break through by one of the cracks. Somewhat comical trying to get back on top of the ice. Today I learned that getting back on top of ice is really, really hard.

Maybe we should make these, and wear them on the vest:

Yes, you should have!!! It was a beautiful sunny day down there except for the last 20min where it clouded over.

We went left as per Bill's suggestion because of the higher water levels. It wasn't a bad idea, the other guys were still warming up and those waves at the top were a little bigger than last time.

Great!

Next time, try portaging right at the broken dam. This way you put in at the top of a nice Class III+ rapid that you have to run blind...

I should have gone...

Oh, and no paddles were broken ;)

In case there are any last minute additions (lol), three of us are still heading down. Jean-Nicolas, his buddy Alex Boyer and myself. Still meeting at my place for 9.

Larry

I texted and called Bill. No answer yet. But I'm pretty darn sure it's just great at higher water levels. American Whitewater describes it as more "fun" when the water is higher and classifies the run as runnable between 2.5 and 7. Since it's at 4.5, sounds like a plan.

So I'm good to go.

How about we meet at my house at 82 Chesapeake Crescent for 9AM tomorrow morning. I live right off the highway (416). From there we can all drive and cross the border together. Make sure you have your passports of course. 613-799-9317.

Please confirm who is coming.

Guys, I've been out-voted for the Fish Creek plan. It's a beautiful river, worls class scenery in a canyon, a not-to-be-missed opportunity.  It's same drive for us at the moment because we are in Kingston. So, I am really sorry to miss the St.Regis, but if anyone feels like going another time this Spring, it's really high on my tick list. Have fun there.

I also consider taking Monday off to run the upper Black on my way back to Ottawa.  I'll post tomorrow if we are going.

FYI, Christian is a "maybe". He's apparently out with friends tonight, so he'll decide tomorrow morning depending on how he feels then. :)

So we still only have three people including myself, but that's still enough to go. But it would be nice to have a few more!
