This photo is for you, Rob!!

Always be nice to the locals.....we were chatting about drawing and painting. The takeout woman paints on skulls. She showed me a painting on a cow and beaver skull. I told her about a longstanding practical joke I have with my sister who is terrified of beavers...can't wait to give her the beaver skull next time I see her.

Thanks Jeff for documenting my refreshing swim. The bruise on my rear is mostly gone now...

Way to rub it in... I spent time with family up north... family... instead of kayaking... I know, I have to get my priorities straight (shhh, just don't tell my mom that).

On Sunday, we were blessed with beautiful sunny weather (much warmer than the previous day on the Bonnie), a wonderful mix of rapids, good crew (10), sunny lunch spot and crowned the day with a post paddle meal at Dieu du ciel in St. Jerome (mmm smoked ribs) - awesome way to kick off spring paddling. Sandra almost missed paddling her best rapid of the day and asked me to paddle her boat through it. I told her I'd rather see her do it.  Judging by the smile on her face afterward - it was the right call (plus she was gifted a beaver skull by the property owner at the take-out. Who does that?). Annie stepped it up too and styled one of the last technical rapids that she thought of walking. Christian was beaming too after running the left side of Class IV three stage drop.  Reminded me of Luc's first time down. :D No Swims. Just Grins. Good times.

I loved all the rapids on the river - a good mix of technical and big water. Thanks to the good guides and to Rob for his patience as I took Forever to scout!  The Achigan is definitely a step up from the BonnieBrooke. Best day so far this year. :)

Bonniebrooke was nice. First time for me. Saw bill cartwheel his kayak! Fortunately he pretty much rescued himself, with the help of Paul and Jeff. Me, it was Jim who pulled me out of the water. There was one pointy rock under my romp. Ouch.

It was just a silly little drop! But the bridge we had to duck was a few inches lower than it should have been... Oops, what was its weight rating? Someone will have to donsome repair work... Anyway. Hitting your helmet on a wood beam can mess up your boof...

We saw firsthand the importance of having your rope with you when scouting a rapid!

Rest of the river went (mostly) without hitch. A few other icy bridges to limbo under, nice rapids, classic Quebec situation: somebody walked into the restaurant with a case of beers and started drinking them! How rude! And how many dogs live on that river? Insane!

Back tomorrow for round 2.

I think I will have to stick with Champlain today.

Cheers,

I'm in for Friday on the Bonniebrook. Anyone want to car pool? I can drive or ride.

Chris, if you are still looking you can potentially hitch with me; I'm located in Chinatown.

Dave

Dave,

Meet us at Christian's house at 8AM.

I'm thinking of running different boats each day so which river is easier?
