Lesson learnt: when attempting to put in on small wet rocks after descending to the bottom of a canyon just a few meters below the giant boil of a big waterfall and above a Class III+ rapid with undercuts etc., don't volunteer to be last.

When nobody is there to hold your boat when strapping in and the boat starts slipping into the water, that's very--let's say--unnerving. The idea of running the rapid with no skirt nor paddle was not attractive. I ended up having to climb back up the canyon and bushwack my way along a rapid that I really wanted to run! Dirk, you owe me one here!

Great river, but at above 50 m^3 / s, it is definitely not like the video that was posted above. Not much 'black' water, mostly white stuff...

hi

We descended the river as originally planned.
The 50 mm rainfall provided a spike in the gauge reading. Depending on which gauge you look at 63 cm/s or 128 cm/s (links to Quebec rivers on the club website  --- the rivers tab), was the reading.

Nobody else was on the river. Looking at photos, it appeared that everybody was sitting in the eddy at Bates island.

Short day on the river.
At the "X" on the map, there are 3 channels to choose from and we chose the main line down through Toboggan.
Scouting from River left would have been better to pick out a line to run.

Not too many flat water sections with most of it continuous Class III/IV.

Well, I'm jumping on the "bail bus".

Apparently I was just hired for the weekend as a photo kayaker for Esprit/Jim. Doing it for the fun of it. So you will have to live on without me. Hopefully you can all come to terms with this.

It is a class IV creek section (scouting is required for the bigger drops).
I have non-existent brain cells., so cannot describe the rapids, and they are challenging (but worth the run).

Level is 29.43   (Low is under 16 cms, High is 32 cms), so towards the high side.
