***POTENTIAL HAZARD***

***POTENTIAL HAZARDS*** Please read. For those unaware, during the last windstorm in September, a sailboat broke off of its moorings and was swept in Deschenes rapids, river right of the island. Jim Coffey and I spent the whole day there along with the owner and another friend to do our best in securing the boat. We have salvaged gear, removed the fuel cannister and the boat is now tethered to the island so that when the water rises, it should swing into a large eddie by the island and hopefully stay there for the next phase. The purpose of this post is not to explain all the details, but to inform everyone that the boat is now located where the blue pin appears on the image. It is about 30m offshore, stuck on a rock and won't be moving anytime soon. We have secured the boat using bright orange ropes and have the ropes under tension and at a high angle so that they are off the water. We estimate only 1m above the water by the bow and way high (maybe 8m?) by the island. The rope is almost entirely out of the way in case a paddler comes by. The actual hazard is the sailboat itself of course. I know not many venture out this side of the island, but we thought prudent to warn everyone just in case. Please share in clubs and amongst friends. The fire department has been informed of the situation. If somebody does spot the boat moving, please let us know. Merci/Thanks!
