To all who could be interested:
I spent the first 22 years of my life in the Saguenay region, so here's the best way to get there from Ottawa/Gatineau:
--Cross into Québec the way you want. King Edward Av./HW 5 North is best.
--Get on HW 50 going East and go til it ends at HW 15.
--Go south on HW 15 for a short while til about to cross HW 640.
--Get on HW 640 East, go til it crosses HW 40.
--Get on HW 40 all the way to Québec city. I usually refuel in Donnacona just before entering Québrc city.
--Follow signs for Saguenay/HW 73 North.
--Get on HW 73, it becomes HW 175. Enjoy scenery. Pit stop at L'Étape halfway.
--Follow HW 175 til Saguenay/Chicoutimi, it becomes Boul. Talbot.
--There is an intersection between Boul. Talbot and HW 70. Remember that spot.
--Optional: continue on Boul. Talbot, there is huge shopping mall with Canadian Tire etc. just past Rue des Saguenéens if needed.
--Go back to HW 70 direction West, towards Jonquière.
--Get into downtown Jonquière, take St-Hubert exit, take first left, rue de Mouettes, til the end. You're at rue St-Dominique. A short distance on left is CEPAL, man-made slalom course and hotel. A short distance on the right is La Voie Maltée, best brewpub nearby.
--Go west (left) on St-Dominique past CEPAL. There is a campground nearby also on lake Kénogami, but we go to the other one.
--Turn right on Chemin de l'Église. Then turn right on Route de Bâtisseurs. Follow til the end, then turn left on Route de Kénogami.
--Campground is there somewhere, the beach is directly across the mouth of rivière Pikauba, which is where you'd be coming from if you ran the Aux Écorces!
Google might suggest other routes, but trust me on this...
