From his expression when he gets out and the way he went backwards over the waterfalls when there was really nothing to turn him around, seems to me that this was a stagged event, that may of have gotten a bit out of hand....

Ha Ha! Luckily there was enough room behind the curtain to breathe, that's often not the case.

He went over a waterfall backwards with no momentum. He should have brought his lunch...

Joke aside, the towback must have been large, since every time he throws his paddle, it comes back...
