The Britannia level was above 59 m for approx. 70 hrs this year. The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board does not expect any more flood conditions.

Surf season came and went. My kayak got wet once at Champlain, and conditions already were below optimum.

As Larry points out, low precipitation Winter and dry Spring, combined with reservoirs being emptied all Winter to avoid river bank flooding, will do that.

So far there is no fee for Lorne access, so it will be a Pushbutton summer? I suspect I will be spending a lot of time on the Rouge. If Québec is not forbidden territory...

At least I now have a permanent telescope mount in my yard...

Spring 2021 "flooding" came and went or never did much. There is burn ban currently in Lanark County and one will be issued this week in Ottawa which is an indication of how dry it is out there.

Usually there is a second blip from the reservoirs up north but rain is needed for Spring time at Bates.

Or the Ottawa River drops to 0 on the Shaggy Design gauge in July rather than hang around to 2,3,4 like it did last summer.

I checked it out today and it still seems to be lacking eddy service.

Not quite yet. Eddy is paddle-able, but 2nd wave a bit ugly. 1st wave is great if you have a fast boat! I'll try to go tomorrow evening. One SUP surfer on 1st wave today.

Ottawa flood conditions to begin this week

Hi all.

The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (http://ottawariver.ca/forecasts/) is expecting level at Britannia to go above 59 m today March 29. This is traditionnally the level where the surf wave begins to have good eddy service.

As I type this, the level is hovering just below 59 but is still showing hints of the usual daily variation, not showing its usual steep climb when flood normally begins. Water colour is telling, I will try to take a look tonight.
