No matter how hard the rapid it is always best to have at least two people running from each side of the river (with proper safety gear).
We took a river for granted in a dangerous spot and had an incident that could have been avoided if there weren't 3 people on one side and 1 on the other. Happy to say that everything turned out okay. However, by the time I had the chance to get anywhere near a spot where I could do a rope rescue a lot of time had passed.
It was a bad call on my part as I made a last minute decision to run a line with the two other boaters leaving one person to do a portage on the opposite side of the river. Lesson learned. I will make better calls in the future.
