During Easter, one surfer almost got hit by his flying board and then, about 1/2 hour later, he did get hit! He was wearing a helmet. I talked to him about it but I had my eye on the guy(s) who were not wearing helmets.

Whenever he falls off... paddle next to him and hit him on the back of the head with your paddle.

Yeah... He looked like a d-bag, and now we know he IS one.

I saw the guy in question. Apparently he doesn't realize his board might hit him hard on the head one day when he falls off the wave. Yesterday at some point, JohnO's SUP board was thrown clean out of the water 4 feet up in the air.

A good way to encourage an egoistical @$$h01e like him to wear a helmet is to point out it's not always about him: if he cracks his head open, the paramedics may not enjoy fishing him out of the water, the city may no longer allow access to the park and many many many boaters might be a tad angry towards him and he might have a hard time finding someone to change his diapers...

A SUP guy was surfing there yesterday without a helmet and no apparent floatation (turns out he apparently had floatation on under his dry suit). I asked him about it and mentioned that I've terrorized the occasional rock with my head there before and that he should pop by paddleshack to grab a helmet, to which he replied "Yeah, well I'm not stuck upside down in a boat"....apparently making some sort of reference that his head probably wouldn't go under water if he fell off?(never mind other paddles/boats/boards that you can potentially come into contact with) Anyhow.... is there a good way to encourage people to wear helmets and to wear their flotation on the outside of their drysuit to provide a clip point in case a rescue is required? I don't particularly want to spend valuable surf time dragging a disoriented person with head lacerations all the way back to shore.

To keep this from turning into a rant, I should add that after I got irritated at him he seemed to agree that it was probably a good idea to go get one, though I'm not sure if it was just to get me to leave him alone.
