OK, in case anyone else wants to join.

Cindy D and two friends of hers (Steve and Mathieu) as well as myself are heading to do the Main tomorrow morning. We are meeting at the put in for 11:30AM.

Cindy will be driving on the Qu?bec side and they are meeting at her place for around 9:30AM.

I'm leaving alone from Barrhaven around 10:00AM.

So if someone wants to join us, feel free to meet us there, or if you want a ride, you can email lafreniere.luc@gmail.com or call 613-799-9317.

Sorry Doug, I got your call but I was at the in-laws for dinner (family dinner event).

I definitely can't do Wednesday... so Thursday still stands for me if anyone else would like to join. At this point, I'm not expecting anyone... but just in case someone else does want to go. Feel free to post, personal message or email me redacted.

Environment Canada Weather forecast at http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/on-131_metric_e.html
for Pembroke Issued: 3:30 PM EDT Tuesday 31 July 2012
  • Wednesday
Cloudy. 60% chance of showers early in the morning with risk of a thunderstorm. Clearing in the afternoon. High 29. UV index 7 or high.
  • Thursday
Cloudy with 60% chance of showers. High 26.
So the best weather window is Wed afternoon, ie tomorrow Aug 1.  I and 3 others from the ORR are planning for Wed afternoon, ~1pm Westboro departure.  Now checking into car pooling arrangements.  One of the 3 is 90%.  Others may register their interest  by 7pm tonight Tues July 31, as per the ORR email I sent out.

So my bosses are ridiculous... now it's "ok" to take Thursday off and let one of our senior staff members in charge. *sigh*...

SO..... if anyone is interested once again for a Thursday paddle.... ideally with another car.... I should be up for it (extreme caution, barring any unforeseen circumstances)

WTF... so apparently my boss decided to take Thurs/Fri off. This means I can't take Thursday off since I'm acting manager when my boss is off and he gets to supersede me (mostly because I'm off all of next week). So this is NOT panning out very well.

So cancel on my behalf for now. If something changes I'll post.

Hmmm, I just looked at the weather forecast. Tuesday and Wednesday don't look very good. Tuesday is a bit better. I can do Thursday as well but that would definitely be a full day off since I have to be back around 6PM for dinner at the inlaws.

So I repost the original question, any takers for Thursday maybe instead? All day? I'd prefer doing the channel, but if there aren't any other cars, park and play is definitely an option Christian.

Yes I am interested paddling Wednesday afternoon, leaving the City ~ 1pm +/- 1 hour.

Later in the day paddles mean less crowds, often no-one below Push Button.  (Last Wed for example, the last of others at Push Button, left at 6pm.)

I'll post solicitation of the same on the ORR email.  Hopefully this will result in enough people for a 2nd car.  If not I can bicycle and/or hitch hike.

By leaving at ~1pm most people only have to sacrifice 1/2 a day vacation.

Today the river was running ~ -2.5 making McCoy, Lorne, Push-Button and Blacks great paddling.  I like the variety of doing more than park and play.

Paddling this week?
« Reply #1 on: July 29, 2012, 10:08:52 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm hoping that someone else is interested in going paddling sometime either Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm willing to take a day off (and anticipate no resistance from my boss) or to head off work early and paddle in the evening. Whichever works.

Any takers? I'm gone on a 7 day canoe trip starting this Saturday and can't kayak for the next two weekends... so I figured I'd go this week.

I have a car, can pick people up and can fit up to four kayaks on my Sentra.

I'm thinking Main channel (Ottawa) but if someone has expertise and interest somewhere else, by all means, but I do not know any other rivers.
