Cleo and I went in search for that new wave, late this afternoon.
I think we located the wave.
If so, the Sewer wave is much better...(in today's conditions).
I would say Sewer is better in almost all conditions that I ran it earlier this summer.
Much easier to access from the eddy. Nicer shape.
Based on the pictures at
http://cityofottawawhitewater.blogspot.com/2008/09/deschenes-rapid-byob-wave.html, I think we were at the right place.
There is a long wood beam on the rocks next to the eddy.
Grahame joined us with his new/old Subaru and no kayak.
The wave seemed steeper then the pictures seem to show and my kayak a bit long for it, possibly...or simply I too unexperienced.
Cleo did an eskimo roll and said there was barely enough water and had to tuck in quick.
My prow hit the rock bottom just in front of the wave a couple of times. Very shallow; I would say 6in.
We worked the wave for about 30min, at the setting sun, under Grahame's attentive eye and tips.
At one point, I think he signaled for a loop...crazy dude!!!
OK, Grahame, I'll trade my cup holder for your windshield.
Cheers!
