one photo is Dean the slalom paddler , the other is Mike Lee , retired paddler.

Do you mean Mike Li? Works at Cognos? Short Chinese with a crancky sense of humor and a Subaru?
If so, not fully retired; got him out a couple of times last summer.
And I repaired his paddle last spring.
And then he tries to get me to beef up his VB team for time to time.

That bowl style wave/hole by shore was great , I hope it returns one day.

Sigh...

Remember doing crossovers in Pirouette S's and Crossfires and having 6-8 paddlers on the 3rd wave?

Remember being able to touch the top of the wall and literally being able to see your car in the parking lot from the eddy?

Remember the great wave in the Middle in deep summer and there was never a "bad" time of year for surfing at Champlain?

Remember when kayaks went on TOP of the car and the drivers actually waved to each other?

Remember no real lineups on the Ottawa, ever?

sigh...

 glad you enjoyed the photo.
the photo is the main wave , the front wave is out of the picture ,the front wave is still basically the same (was easy to surf back then in big boats) , but the sweet , nice pocket bowl style hole closest to wall in photo is gone.  :'( ,  we cant get it back , the wall is now built higher up,creating farther out eddie,  but the good news the cement wall should now last 100 or so years.,  maybe by then people can go back in a time machine and surf it.

this photo is around 10 years ago, you can see the nice pocket bowl that used to be there and is closer to the wall , the ofp's* will remember , that's a full length slalom boat to give size perspective.   I remember seeing the first cartwheels in a preception whip it. ,  :o

 *ofp - old fart paddler.
