I will be taking some beginners to McKoys. They don't have to stop in Zoom Flume it's easy all the way down.
I paddled with a group from Montreal today. They were beginners except for their organizer. He even
had them swim Mckoys (without boats) the first day. It's so deep now that would be fun.

But at this level, why not put in at the usual place and run Zoom Flume? It's easiest now...

Sean, yes you can walk up the gravel road all the way up above the Lorne, you end up in a nice bay way above moving water, where you can practice your roll... Did that two years ago, that was the fateful day when I lost my helmet camera, and when Rick Mercer filmed his run of Pushbutton (Pushbottom?, look at http://www.cbc.ca/mercerreport/video.html october 9th 2007). Basically, instead of going down to the water, where the firepit etc. are, you keep left and follow the road up. You can't miss it.

The Ottawa now is at 13 (Owl gauge). Beginners, Lorne... Minibus?

Hi All,

I'm going to be bringing 2 beginners out and am looking for the best place to put-in.  So far, the best place that I can think of is above the Lorne.

1) it's above the Lorne
2) it's downstream on the way back to the car
3) you can get upstream to McCoys, and then back downstream to Iron Ring, and a side-trip to Initiation is easy.

Is there still a road that continues past the Lorne BBQ spot that gives easy access to the 'pond' above the Lorne?

(The other alternative is the standard put-in, but that means walking the island at McCoys 2x, and if someone doesn't want to cross the outflow of Pinball, then they'll have to ford Pinball, which might be tough right now...)
