HI Roger,

Thanks for the reminder! I justed signed up again through your paypal system. I registered as a single adult, plus storage for my slalom boat (few...! only 4 spots were left..., uh... now I guess only 3 spots are left LOL...)

I look forward to seeing you at the Pump House. BTW Kuddos for the outstanding new Club House proposal.

Cheers,

Paul ;D

Joanne:

We try to post most stuff on the club calendar which is a link on top right of the website. It shows the High Performance Athletes training times with their coaches, Masters slalom sessions, kids sessions, open boat slot, etc. Right now Masters sessions are Mon and Wed evenings 6-7:30, currently uncoached. Mon evening will probably become a coached session. It's going to become busy in the evenings as MKC runs their courses sometimes (they give a kick back to ORR for use of the facility as all commercial trainers are asked to do), we will have cadet spring sessions (although probably a bit earlier than our normal evening slots), we are likely going to have adult plastic boat open/supervised sessions (like we had last year - mainly for newer paddlers), etc. Still we should be able to find enough time for everyone and it's possible to share the course if groups are not huge. Anyway, take a look at the calendar and it might help you. I'll try to keep it up-to-date. Would it be useful to schedule a particular evening or time-slot for the next few weeks for plastic boaters that I can put on the calendar?

..Roger

Hi Roger,
I think that the dual membership is very complementary. I have one request. Last week, a group of us in plastic boats hit up the Master's session and I think there were a few slalom boaters were worried that the pumphouse would get a little busy when the courses start. If you could share which evenings would be most appropriate for hard boats to show up, we can try to coordinate as much as possible.

Hello everyone at CdB.

First of all thanks for the pool session last night. It was good for me to be able to continue to give my 12 year old some rolling practice.

I just want to encourage those of you who wish to paddle at the pumphouse to take out an ORR membership too. (I am a member of both clubs, but not very active in CdB due to all my ORR activities. However, I'd like to try to get out to some CdB river runs this year). To join ORR, just go to the website www.ottawariverrunners.com and navigate to the membership link.

I'm sorry our membership is more expensive than CdB. It's partly because the membership also includes a WO (Whitewater Ontario) membership (with insurance) and ORR pays a fee to WO. The ORR fees also help to cover the costs of maintaining the pumphouse, toilet rental, some occasional fees to the city (yes we did have to pay a whole bunch of money when the pumphouse course was recently renovated), dock construction, gates, club loaner boats, etc. We also will be putting up a club house with additional boat storage in the next 1-2 years. You can see a first cut architectural design on our website done by Barry Hobin's office. Anyway, to put the annual fees into perspective, they are about the same as tank of gas to transport you to go and run the Ottawa river a couple of times, and they support a great paddling location in the heart of town. If you choose not to take out an ORR membership, then please remember to drop $5 off in the box for the day-use fee.

Also if you have any kids or relatives or children of friends who are looking to get into paddling, please check out the ORR's summer camps. We had about 60 kids and youth take camps last summer and likely the camps will be pretty popular again this year. We start the kids out on the FW, and by the last day most of them are taking a few runs down the WW. There are level 2 camps also for those with some experience, and ongoing coached paddling programs for kids and youth.

If you have any suggestions for improved club cooperation, and things you'd like to see, just let me know.

Thanks, ..Roger
