so i think we will be in the river around  11:00

Its nice and 20 km on the river

I never went out before 17:00  but always go slow and relax... and always scout the canyon and the slides (glissoire!, not a drop, not a falls)

C'est relax, c'est pas  une grosse rivi?re, mais c'est beau en bibitte!

Let me attempt to clarify...

In French, 'seuil' is NOT synonymous with 'slide'. A 'seuil' is a generic term for a sometimes, but not always, essentially river-wide drop of a few feet, where the water does NOT fall vertically. If it does fall vertically, then it is refered to as a 'chute'. I am not sure of the French term for a slide, but 'glissoire' might be it, when for instance only a few inches of water flow over a smoothish rock formation.

For instance, Iron Ring is a seuil, but Quyon is a chute.

Thank you Bastien and Daniel, I appreciate the explanation. That's actually a very useful way of better describing a rapid.

It's funny, last night I was reading a description of the Kipawa rapids where the phrase "seuil(s)" is used quite often. I ran the Kipawa many years ago and in my mind I couldn't recall many features I would describe as a "slide".  Perhaps the phrase in that article is also used to describe vague features such as 'drop', 'slot' or 'pourover'.  If I were to go back again with that in mind I'm sure I could understand the particular feature they were talking about.

"Slide" conjures up a picture of a sloping rock shelf covered with a few inches of water. Fowlersville can easily be categorized as that. Maybe I should expand my definition of slide/seuil (or run more creeks

Du Sourd sounds like a nice river. I can't find a level gauge for it, so I guess the level is a bit of a roll of the dice.

Do you mind if I ask what the difference is between "chute", "rapide" and "seuil" (C,R,S) in the context of reading the map? For example, one of the rapids is rated RII, but there is also the designation S V-VI at the same location (between P4 and P3). There are also some SII and SIII listed. 

I get varying translations for Seuil, including 'line', 'threshold', 'sill' in the context of a river description.  What exactly does it mean?

EDIT: I apologize, I just reread the earlier posts and there was the answer - a slide! 
A slide? A rock "slide"?  I didn't realize there was a class designation for that. Or am I still confused?

The slides is a smouth rock with a big wave at the bottom.
I did it 4 times but we will scout it to be sure!

we are 10 confirm up to now! 4 canoe and 6 kayak

when we see this cotation on a map its a method then some boaters use for describe a long rapid or fir describe 2 differents half of the rapids( for Example: the right of the river there is a drop and the left there is some big wave a r2 ) .

 if its write like that  (S4,R2) its a seuil 4 followed by a r2,

 or ,

 the half of the river will be a seuil 4 (on the right line) and just on the other half of the river( it's a r2 on the left of the river),

After the parking P4 there is a long slide (S 5 ou 6) but I think it is a  S 3. I did it with my tadem canoe and with my kayak Pyranha! I will used my kayak..
